Speed Demons, rejoice – racing just got fun again. Imagine the non-stop, unrelenting urgency that defines SID and XX combined with the sinister traction and unrepentant geometry of our short travel trail slayer, the Following LS. Our lightest bike ever may have gone XC-fasting with this SID XX inspired build, but it didn’t shed an ounce of that Evil charm in its pursuit of raw speed. Top-shelf featherweights may take the place of our usual components, but the full-carbon heart of the Following remains, pumping stronger than ever. If you have ever dreamed of Evil level confidence and control in a more dynamic and responsive package, this is your ride.

  • Looking for even more traction and control? Click over to the Following LS

Do more with less.

We stripped away the Following LS’s shredcountry shell to expose its heart of gold medals. A refined component spec with a tilt towards efficiency and lightweight durability enables the Following SID XX to show its true colors, beyond the pack or between the tape.

Do more with less.

We took the most playful bike ever to manual the earth and poured Pop Rocks into a mouthful of Mountain Dew. And an inline shock makes sure the pop don’t stop. Bantam frame and build weights, plus a tyrannically steep 77-degree seat tube angle mean the Following is even faster up than it is down… even if that flat out seems impossible.

THE XC SPEED DEMON

Like you, we love all-mountain-style events like the Downieville Classic, BC Bike Race, trans-whateveria, etc., where descending prowess and climbing efficiency share equal value on the podium steps. The SID XX build ushers the Following into this world, with components and geometry optimized for the grindhouse climbs and white-knuckle descents of race day.

We chose a feathery SID Ultimate fork and the latest SID shock to smooth out the track, with a twist-grip full frame lockout for the home stretch sprints on smoother terrain. Shaving just 10mm off the fork travel tips the geometry needle towards nimble efficiency, while maintaining composure on modern XC gnar. The XX kit is the choice of World Cup racers, where acceleration, cadence control and efficiency are king, a natural fit for the Following SID XX. The SRAM XX Transmission is a revelation for spandex-stretchers, as it moves the chain with zero hesitation in the face of torque numbers that make lesser drivetrains skip and slip. It was the easy choice for our dedicated race rig, where a single botched shift can make or break the day.

On the trail, a pair of Level Ultimate four-piston brakes guarantee Evil level control perched above a svelte ENVE carbon stem and M6 bar. Why four-pistons for XC? Because more control IS more speed. When a bike packs the braking traction of the Following, you quickly learn that a trimmed braking zone is more valuable on race day than trimming the bike’s weight by another few grams. More stopping power = you get to ride faster.

To further featherize the SID XX, and put more snap in your attack, we’re trusting Industry Nine’s lightest carbon wheels shod with some fast-rolling WTB Ranger tires. The frames are on dietary restriction, clad with minimalist rubber armor in the name of ascending speed, and the build is capped off with a WTB Silverado saddle, all gussied up in carbon-rail trim.
